The Divide

Been thinking a lot lately about what I am to do with my time. Of course I have never been one to traverse further in time than approximately 3-4 weeks at any given time. I tend to fill my next hours with things that are laid before me, things that suddenly pop up when I least expect it. Today I’ve been brushing up on my Japanese once more to see if that could lead to any potential amusement, which it did for a good hour. Scouring the web at 9gag kept me amused for another 30-40 minutes and then an e-mail popped up saying that I can’t apply for a job when I am not currently residing in the country. I replied back telling them that even though Williamstown is quite small, it should not be ignored. For small things are often those who surprise and delight you the most when you come to understand them. Just take a look at atoms. Not that you can but you get the drift. When I wrote the e-mail, all of a sudden it transformed into a quite eloquent text saying that “Oh my, I do think we have come to an misunderstanding. I am indeed in the country! Here are my details.” We’ll see how that plays out in the morning. Alas I have not yet found a job. So the next big thing might be to educate oneself. I’ve been thinking: Journalism Despite me writing silly things all this time, writing at all has given me something to do when I’m not doing anything special. When watching TV I’ve been writing songs instead. And the blog has given me a lot to write so I figured why repair something that is worth improving. I chatted with a person from the Open Universities Australia (OUA) to see what is required to get a Certificate of Journalism. Actual quote: Persons last name has been omitted due to failure of having one. Misspellings are entirely fictional (I didn’t write them).

  • “Well the Certificate of Journalism is open enrolment, which means you do not need to meet any requirements to be able to enrol”
  • – Sounds great!

  • “Open Universities Australia specialises in providing our students with an online study environment that supports a flexible lifestyle. Examples include; the delivery of lectures and modules, assessments, video lectures and support discussion forums.”
  • “So it will not affect your visa.”
  • – I asked if I could finish the Certificate even if I went abroad.

  • “Yes :)”
  • – Awesome! Are there any costs involved?

  • “You would be classed as an international student, so you would roughly be looking at $1,020.00 (AUD). Per unit, that is.”
  • Number of units: 8 You don’t have to do the math. I did it. 1 AUD ≈ 7.2 SEK 8*1020 = 8160 AUD 7.2*8160 = 58752 SEK To say the least: I was dismayed. But I think I found something that I would be interested in. From Journalism there are many paths that stray. To those of you who like jokes: The first name was also omitted. //The Joker
